    Hairy Fungus Beetle

    Description:
The adults are 0.1 inch long and have a tucked-under head. The body is light brown and covered with fine hairs. They resemble the drugstore beetle but are smaller and have clavate antennae instead of irregularly serrate.

    Damage:
These beetles are often found on newly harvested grain but seldom increase to high numbers during storage. This insect is a minor pest of stored grain because they do not feed on whole, undamaged grain.
    Hairy Fungus Beetle

    Drugstore Beetle

    Description:
The adults are 0.1 inch long, light brown to reddish brown, with a tucked under head and a cylindrical body covered with a fine silky pubescence. They look similar to cigarette beetles but have grooves in their wing covers, while cigarette beetles don't. They also look similar to hairy fungus beetles, but have antennae that are irregularly serrate instead of clavate.

    Damage:
These beetles are a minor pest of stored grain. They are sometimes found in stored grain in association with indian meal moth infestations.
    Drugstore Beetle

    Cigarette Beetle

    Description:
The adults are light brown and 0.1 inch long. The head is tucked under the body at nearly a right angle. It is similar in appearance to the drugstore beetle except that the wing covers are smooth. Larvae are C-shaped and covered with long hairs.

    Damage:
This insect is usually not found in stored grain. Their presence may indicate damaged or out-of-condition grain.
